What is needed to cross the Canadian border …?

My aunt came to visit Vietnam, California, and is about to take a road trip to Canada with some other parents. She has only a passport in Vietnam and I do not know if the border would pass up such passport, he left? If not, what it should be able to cross the Canadian border? Please help, I thanks.
